back in the saddle again

August 27th, 2016 by kevin

it’s been two years and five months since i last posted on this blog.

i stopped paying for my hosting service back then because i had recently purchased this fancy new magic hard drive synology device that evidently could host my site and save me like $120 a year.

needless to say, it took awhile to get things back up and running.

last summer i remember i did a little digital maintenance and went through this blog post by post and updated all the photos and videos, uploading them to flickr. i had no idea what the hell i was doing when i started doing this thing back in the summer of ’08, so i kind of just farted along, learning as i went, randomly posting shit here and there with no plan or purpose and ended up with a site that was like 10GB of massive disorganization. so i streamlined the whole deal, but it still wasn’t live. ultimately, i think my main motivation to get this thing back online was to make all that housekeeping work not be for naught.

anyway, it’s been on the to-do list for quite awhile, and in the last week, for some reason, i decided to tackle it. todd henry and i spent about three hours on the phone together last sunday night and almost got things all going, but we both had to go to bed with some serious glitches afoot. both of us (i found out later) had that spinning, problem solving brain thing going on and slept like hell because we didn’t solve the puzzle. still, it was great to fuck around on the phone late at night doing goofy home project, computer, problem solving shit with todd henry. been doing that shit for over 20 years now with that cat. don’t know what i’d do without you, henry.

anyway, today i — alone — solved the problem. decided to back shit up, do a clean install, and — voila — shit worked. had to do a little forwarding on the domain hosting site, and we are good to go.

when i started this blog i was 34, leaving california after living there for 14 years, and moving to baton rouge to start a phd program.

now i’m 41, got a tenure track job, and own a house in atlanta.

so … i’m not sure how relevant this thing is in my life anymore, but i used to enjoy checking in here now and again and sharing shit. i think i still will … for what it’s worth.

see y’all around.
